ABOUT THE POSITION OF COORDINATOR - YOUNG GIRLS EMPOWERMENT

AAFIR PROGRAM FOR TRIBAL ADOLESCENT GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN IN SHAHAPUR, DIST. THANE, MAHARASHTRA
(Aafir is a Korku word for flight/ flying)
JOB DESCRIPTION
The program is based in villages from Shahapur Taluka, Thane, Maharashtra.
Right from the inception phase of the program, we would like to have a person on board who has lived experiences of marginalisation and resisted biases, inequality at different levels and places. The person will shape the program and develop the perspective; oversee implementation and handhold a small team in this journey. Since this is an inception of the programme we would like a person to have on board, who has a lived experience of the deprivation and still achieved something in their life.
Specific tasks for the initial phase:
- Developing the understanding of the organisation on
- the tribal life, culture, values, worldviews
- the life of girls, young women, their survival, empowerment needs which may be unique to their living
- the idea of empowerment for the girls and young women from tribal communities
- to conduct necessary surveys, liaison with the local government and non-government organisations and bodies
- As the library for girls/women is the core of the program, enriching the library, extending the library to the girls, creating space in the village and school for the library and for the girls to get together, to make efforts to keep girls coming for interaction, expression, study etc. in this place.
- On the basis of the library, sessions will be organized for the development of literacy, development of financial literacy, understanding of one's own body and sexuality, and understanding 21st century skills.
- Regular documentation and preparing reports
- Looking out for appropriate human resources needed for the sessions with girls and for the team
- Organize field trips where necessary.
REQUIRED
- 5-7 years’ prior work experience in a similar role or working with a group of women or girls in the past / in rural areas.
- Proficiency in Marathi and Hindi language
- Willingness to travel in rural areas within Maharashtra
- Documentation skills - reporting, proposal writing, analysis etc.
- Communication skills - guidance and reporting
- Good health and physical fitness
- Computer knowledge (MS office, Internet etc.)
- Commitment to the stakeholders/people in the work process
- Willingness to commit to at least 5 years of work with Unnati
PREFERED
- Women and Non-binary
- From Dalit, Bahujan and Adivasi community
- Library experience or association
- Earlier exposure to the non-profit sector
