The Korku language does not have its own script. So we scripted it in Nagari which is the common link for the school’s medium of instruction, that is, Marathi.
In collaboration with Story weaver, Unnati ISEC has made available 105 storybooks on the world wide web, thus providing a voice and recognition to the Korku language on the digital platform.
Story Books (Korku/Marathi/English)
Well known educationist Varsha Sahasrabuddhe has created 10 bi-Lingual story books for early age learners. Unnati ISEC assisted her in translation of these books in Korku. The books are available on order at the following address - moolgami.pakashan@gmail.com
Maharashtra State Council for Education, Research and Training (MSCERT), an apex academic body of Maharashtra government has produced 10 bi-lingual story books. These are in the printed form and available with MSCERT.
Children’s literature should be available not only in schools but also in the public domain, that is, in people’s homes, public libraries, book shops are important. It is a sign of dignity and respect to the language, when written forms are available in public domains. Unnati ISEC has witnessed people purchasing the Korku books for their children, when access and availability was easy e.g. during Yatras. This certainly would help develop reading culture in the community, which is otherwise absent as their language was never scripted.

Pune based Zankar studio and Tribal research training Institute of Government of Maharashtra created audio stories in Korku language with the support from Unnati.
In the process of development of literacy, ample opportunities to children for reading and exposure to written language is critical. Hence, we draw up story books in Korku.
